Newt in 2012: Don't even think about it

Newt Gingrich, fresh off endorsing Big Tent Republican Dede Scozzafava in New York's District 23 special election, told C-SPAN's "Washington Journal" yesterday morning that he's seriously considering a run for the White House in 2012. Referring to himself and his third wife, "We'll decide, if there's a requirement as citizens that we run, I suspect we probably will."

Newt's endorsement of Scozzafava is all we need to know that a Newt candidacy would be a disaster for conservatism in America. Scozzafava is pro-abortion, voted twice for same-sex marriage, supports card check legislation (which robs employees of the privacy of the ballot in union votes), and is so bad on fiscal policy that the Democrat in the race is accusing her of being a tax and spend liberal.

Worse, there is a perfectly good conservative candidate in that race, Doug Hoffman, who's been endorsed by notable conservatives such as Sarah Palin, Dick Armey and the Family Research Council.

Newt clearly would be a total disaster as a Republican candidate for president. Newt should stick to writing books and serving as a TV pundit and leave the governing to genuine conservatives. We need to keep him as far away from the Oval Office as possible.

Now all eyes should certainly focus on Mr. Mike Huckabee. He should be given his right this time around.

The more I hear from Mike Pence the more I like! He could just possibly be my pick for President 2012 if he should run. Mike Huckabee also has many qualifications. He is a wonderful host on his show but I have been wondering if some of those jokes he makes would seem too "cutsey" and translate as well if he were president.

Newt is the worst kind of turncoat - he should work for the DNC (or maybe he already does). He and M. Steele (& Scharznegger, etc. etc.) have made me ashamed to call myself a Republican. And then they have the NERVE to call me and ask for donations for the New York election? I'm switching to the Independent Party.

Newt do the country a favor don't do it.

I was to disappointed that Newt endorsed Scozaafava. He is such a smart and eloquent man with so many good ideas, but endorsing such a liberal candidate is simply caving in to the new Republican liberalism. So sad. And yes, I do understand that it could cause the Democrat to win by splitting the vote. However, IT IS TIME for real conservatives to stand up for conservatism!

I guess I have been wrong about Newt. By this move he has just lost me as a supporter. He cannot play both sides of the street - not anymore. He is either Conservative or he isn't, and now we know. Anonymous

I agree. This has been disappointing to me....that Newt is party loyal to a far left republican. It makes me question his integrity and devotion to the mindset of conservative action and policy. Republicans need to get their act together and be really conservative, not just in words.

Also, don't forget how Mr. Gingrich has been a 'little too friendly' with Sen. Hillary Clinton over the years. As time has passed, he has slowly succumbed to "Washington DC (win at any cost) liberal-derangement syndrome". Politicians who have been in Washington DC long enough, whether "D" or "R", almost always seem to be 'corrupted'. Newt Gingrich now appears to be just another statistic.

We are tired of double-talking politicians that lie to us...it is time to throw off politics as usual...the Republican Party is doomed if Newt is the leader. You can talk the talk but walk the walk- your words will incriminate you.

There is no way I would vote for Gingrich....he does not represent my values.

Newt disappointed me with his support for Dede instead of Doug Hoffman; I would not support him for President and I wouldn't even vote for him as the local Animal Warden. If Republicans don't stand by their conservative principles then they are nothing more than Democrats and will continue to lose. Maybe this will give rise to a Conservative Party as a viable 3rd party option instead!

Newt Gingrich is not a true conservative. He does NOT practice family values. He is a Catholic yet has had 3 marriages and admitted to multiple infidelities. He also has a lesbian sister and gay cousin. Republicans are not true conservatives either. They aren't fiscally conservative anymore and they don't really support social conservative values either. They also support the homosexual agenda, albeit more secretly and subversively than the Democrats. It is time to support Third Party candidates. The Republicans have abandoned us so we must abandon them.

You are 110% Correct !!!!!

I'm going to donate to AFA just because of this well written, dead on article!!

Newt Gingrich has certainly cooked his goose with genuine conservatives. I hope that he soon comes to realize that fact and will thus spare himself and his wife (and the nation) any more thought of running for the presidency.
10/27/2009 6:33:10 PM
Well said! I couldn't agree more! dano
10/27/2009 6:25:15 PM
Newt is a bleeding heart Liberal.
10/27/2009 3:54:40 PM
The RNC & a lot of other so called "Republicans" are truly living in a vacuum. The Tea Parties should have clearly demonstrated the utter disgust WE have for BOTH parties.. Can't criticize the Dems for blind party votes when Repubs do the same.
10/27/2009 3:42:50 PM
NG has got to be kidding! Stick to writing historical fiction and get a real conservative (Tancredo, Keyes, Palin, Savage) to run for president!
10/27/2009 3:38:38 PM
The articles is right on!! Newt has so badly comprimised hinself thast I don't think he'd be any stronger than the last Republican presidential candidate. No Newt! Stay away from that arena. Recent endorsements and associations are disasters!
10/27/2009 2:51:41 PM
YEs, I have always supported Newt as the intelectual Republican we need..but he has proved to be mid to left of center like McLame. Remember him reaching to Hillary teaming with her on several issues? We don't need another RINO non conservative. We DO NEED SOMEONE TO STEP UP TO RUN NOW however. CHUCK
10/27/2009 12:07:43 PM
Newt as a "family values candidate" for the GOP after that endorsement Just shows this reader how dead from the socks up the GOP has become...wow!
10/27/2009 8:41:12 AM
Newt is irrelevant to conservatism, but the Old Media want him to be relevant to The Republican Party, just like they wanted McCain to be relevant and for the same reason: being out of touch with conservatism and the majority of the American Public, who are conservative, which assures victory for The Left. The Republican Party is circling the drain because they are no longer conservative. A new party, a conservative party, will arise if there is enough time granted by God to the USA. http://guyaverage.blogspot.com
