Don't know if you saw this news item from earlier in the week, but Politico reported that even though President Obama has only been in office for nine months, he has already hit the links as much as President Bush did in over two years. See Politico.
CBS' Mark Knoller — an unofficial documentarian and statistician of all things White House-related — wrote on his Twitter feed that, "Today - Obama ties Pres. Bush in the number of rounds of golf played in office: 24.
Took Bush 2 yrs & 10 months."
This seems like an inordinate amount of golf-playing to me. No one begrudges the president a little time off to relax and de-stress, but twice as much golf as the previous president? I suppose when the going gets tough, it's time to play a round or two.
Incidentally, Obama also played golf with a woman for the first time since taking office - chief domestic policy adviser Melody Barnes. This made news because the New York Times wrote an article on Obama's golf tendencies, saying that he had not golfed with any women at all and making it a battle of the sexes story. This in turn caused the Chicago Sun-Times to question Press Secretary Bill Burton about it, who then corrected the Times story. Burton said: “I was wrong about this - all apologies. He golfed with women on the campaign trail but not until Melody this year. Sorry to all the people who were unwittingly misled by what I gave the pooler.”
